Heat the pouch of smoked meat by following the instructions on the package.
Prepare slices of bread and cheese : spread the butter* on only one side of each bread slice and separate the cheese.
*If you use vegetable oil, assemble as directed without spreading butter on the bread. Simply heat 5 ml of oil in the pan a few minutes before adding the sandwich. Add the rest of the oil when you turn the sandwich in the pan.
When the meat is ready, assemble the sandwich, inserting the meat and the cheese: start with a bread slice (buttered side outside), a slice of cheese, half of the meat, a slice of cheese (or two), the other half of meat, a slice of cheese and the other bread, buttered side on the outside always.
Heat a cast iron skillet over medium heat and brown the bread on both sides. Careful when turning so it doesn’t come apart. Warm the pickle in the pan as well, if desired.
Remove from the heat and cut according to your desires. Serve and enjoy accompanied by the pickle and, why not, some potato chips.
